Growing Rocket Seedlings In Brisbane

A seed tray filled with the rocket seedlings I grew on my Brisbane balcony this year

Rocket, roquette, arugula…whatever you call it, it tastes great, is one of the fastest greens to grow in Brisbane, and also thrives in hot summer weather. What a winner!

If you’re thinking about growing rocket seedlings in Brisbane, it is a good choice because it is one of the easiest veggies to grow from seed. I’ve included the steps I take to grow my own rocket seedlings (like the photo above) and have an ongoing selection of rocket at home. My homegrown rocket can last for weeks and weeks making it a very good return on investment. Check out my tips below.

Growing Rocket Seedlings In Brisbane | 5 Tips

  1. Fill up a seedling tray with potting mix (I use REKO trays and Searles potting mix)

  2. Put a hole in each square and then pop one rocket seed in each square (1 only, trust me!)

  3. Pat down, sprinkle lightly with water from a watering can (I use Nylex) and put into direct sunlight

  4. A week later seedlings should have popped up

  5. I keep the seedlings in the tray for a whole month to let them get to a good size before planting them in a garden bed or pots

I planted my rocket seedlings into these raised garden beds and they worked out great!
